1. Classification of Rubber Flooring
Rubber flooring is mainly divided into two types:
• Rubber flooring tiles
• Rubber flooring rolls
Tile sizes: 500×500 mm, 600×600 mm, 1000×1000 mm
Roll size: 1220 mm × 15000 mm
Thickness: 2.0 mm, 2.5 mm, 3.0 mm, 3.5 mm (varies by manufacturer)
2. Application Areas
Rubber flooring is widely used in airports, power plants, exhibition halls, gyms, training centers, stages, computer rooms, substations, precision instrument facilities, military warehouses, ship decks, walkways, kindergartens, elderly activity centers, swimming pools, medical facilities, shopping malls, and sports facilities.
It has seen rapid growth in application, increasing at approximately 20% annually.
3. Construction Requirements and Preparation
3.1 Pre-construction Preparation
• Cement mortar leveling layer must be completed and accepted according to construction standards.
• Understand floor structure and prepare construction plan accordingly.
• Confirm flooring type, batch, color consistency, and material stability.
• Prepare tools: grinding machine, industrial vacuum cleaner, 50–75 kg roller, cutters, and accessories.
• Allocate personnel based on project scale and schedule.
3.2 In-construction Preparation
• Self-leveling layer must be completed and inspected for flatness.
• Avoid cross-construction on site.
• Ensure overhead and other works that may damage flooring are completed.
• Large-scale installation requires approved sample area first.
• Materials should be stored neatly and safely on site.
4. Material Pre-laying (24 Hours)
Rubber flooring must be acclimatized on site for at least 24 hours to adapt to temperature and humidity changes, ensuring dimensional stability.
5. Notched Trowel Types
A1: 1.10 mm depth, 1.50 mm width, 250–350 g/㎡
A2: 1.40 mm depth, 1.70 mm width, 300–400 g/㎡
A5: 1.00 mm depth, 1.35 mm width, 250–350 g/㎡
6. Adhesive Open Time and Working Time
Two-component PU adhesive: open time 25–35 min, working time 0–40 min.
Water-based adhesive: open time 5–40 min, working time 30–60 min.
Universal adhesive: open time 10–30 min, working time 40–60 min.
Temperature and humidity significantly affect performance.
7. Material Storage
• Rolls must be stored vertically to prevent deformation.
• Tiles should be stacked flat (10–50 layers max).
• Labels should face outward for easy identification.
• Different batches must be stored separately to avoid color differences.
8. Auxiliary Materials
Includes substrate treatment, interface primer, self-leveling compound, and adhesives.
Substrate strength requirements: residential ≥20MPa, commercial ≥25MPa, industrial ≥30MPa.
Moisture-resistant treatment is required for damp substrates.
9. Adhesive Types and Introduction
9.1 Two-component PU Adhesive
Solvent-free reactive adhesive with high strength, waterproof, temperature resistant, and suitable for ≥3.0 mm flooring.
9.2 Water-based Adhesive
Suitable for ≤3.0 mm rubber flooring, with good environmental performance and ease of use.
10. Installation Conditions
Installation temperature must be between 15°C and 35°C.
Substrate must be dry, clean, flat, and free of contaminants.
Moisture content must be below 3%.
11. Rubber Flooring Tile Installation
Process: substrate preparation → leveling → layout → pre-lay → cutting → adhesive application → laying → rolling → inspection.
Ensure tight seams, no bubbles, no color difference, and uniform surface.
PU adhesive must be used within 15–20 minutes after mixing.
12. Rubber Flooring Roll Installation
Process: substrate preparation → leveling → layout → pre-lay → adhesive application → laying → rolling → inspection.
Seams should be aligned carefully, with overlap cutting if necessary.
Rolls must be acclimated for 24 hours before installation.
13. Key Construction Precautions
• Avoid construction under extreme temperature conditions.
• Ensure adhesive is applied evenly without missing areas.
• Remove dust and debris before installation.
• Ensure proper compaction using rollers to eliminate air pockets.
14. Seam Welding Process
Seam welding should be performed 24 hours after installation.
Groove depth should be about 2/3 of material thickness.
Heat welding temperature: 350–450°C.
After welding, trim excess weld rod after cooling.
15. Maintenance and Waxing
Initial cleaning must be performed 72 hours after installation.
Remove dust, grease, and residues before waxing.
Apply wax in 2–3 coats with full drying between layers.
Avoid heavy traffic during curing period.
